Natural Shampoo – What You Should Know Before Buying
Natural hair products are different from conventional shampoo, conditioner and holding products and they work differently too. Conventional hair products also use irritating chemical surfactants to produce a rich lather and silicone to coat the hair for shine.
Natural hair products, on the other hand, are free of harmful ingredients, and work in a different way to clean and condition your hair. Unfortunately, they didn’t know a few basic things about natural hair care products.
It is known in the natural product world as “hair detox”. It is due to the residue of silicone and its derivatives (dimethicone, cylcomethicone, any chemical with ‘cone’ in it) left from conventional hair products. Once the silicone has been dissolved, you will find the shampoo foams more normally and your hair is silky and soft.
This process normally takes 2-3 weeks, depending on your previous products and the condition of your hair. There are a few things you can do to accelerate the “hair detox” process and get your hair back to its gorgeous, natural state:
- Switch to only natural shampoo, conditioner and hair mousse/gel. If you are still using a synthetic product, you are still coating the hair silicone and other chemicals and the hair detox process will not resolve.
- Detox your hair with a few baths of 1-cup sea salt, 1-cup apple cider vinegar, and 2 cups baking soda (hop in the bath and swish your hair around in it).
- Make a paste of baking soda and natural shampoo and wash your hair with it a few times.
- Make a paste of natural clay (from the health food store) with a natural shampoo and wash your hair with that a few times.
Your hair has gone back to its natural, healthy condition, and it shows! Many people who suffer from scalp irritation, itching and dandruff experience relief from their symptoms after switching to natural hair care products.
